We require an experienced and enthusiastic Farm Unit Manager to lead the team on a 280-cow dairy unit. The Company operates four dairy farms in Shropshire and is currently building a fifth.

This is a senior position in the business, and you will work closely with the Dairy Operations Manager, who oversees the dairy farms, and other key staff, to set the goals and create the budgets of the farming operations for the unit to make a profitable business. The Farm Unit Manager will be fully responsible on a day-to-day basis for the running of the estate and farming business including dealing with compliance for all current regulations. This is an active working farm manager role which requires working flexible hours and locations.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Milking the high yielding Pedigree Jersey herd;
  • Herd health & fertility including AI and Foot trimming;
  • Ensuring the land is fully cropped;
  • Staff management including organising rotas.

The cows are milked through a modern 16:32 Fullwood parlour with; in-parlour feeders, ACRs, milk meters, auto ID, auto shedding gate. The cows are grazed during the summer but are also buffer fed when required and winter cubicle housed.

The successful candidate will be energetic and have a good understanding of dairy husbandry, a proven track record in stockmanship and experience of managing an arable operation. You will be a positive thinker and a good communicator and be able to lead a team.
